They are saying that the eruption damage was significant to severe. It could be see from space satellites, including the GOES-WEST satellite.

You guys wanna see my volcanoes? there on the activity 🤫
As many people know Long Island was created due to a glacier dropping rocks near New York. But not many people know what actually happened. It turns out the Glacier didn’t “drop off rocks but actually slammed into New York. The powerful glacier was over 16m tons in weight and had enough power to cause a crater that would go through the earth if dropped form just the tip of the atmosphere. so, over time the glacier was slowly pushed into New York which then continued to create a larger version of the Adirondacks. These mountains towered and were visible from maine. But over time, around 1 million years later the mountains reached their final height and the glacier digged deep enough to expose volcanic vents. These vents would end up burning a few miles of the large glacier, causing a island to form. Once the island was scarred of most of its ice, it eventually drifted away. And due to the glaciers leave, the Adirondacks slowly lowered in size and pushed the island back, causing a natural canal around the island. This island over time lowered in size and adjusted to the neighboring island, in later years, they were discovered, and have been civilized. Now this island is manhatten, and it’s neighboring island is long island
Data: 2 dates and examples of volcanic vents
Oradell reservoir:
Another eroded example of a volcanic formation is the Oradell reservoir. The current vidible reservoir is actually the outside of a caldera, which housed a volcanic field featuring many different craters. The current oval shaped reservoir looks sweet but had a rumbling history. It last erupted 38 million years ago
cloisters cliff:
Cloisters cliff is a great example of an ancient explosive volcanic vent. The vent was one of the last to erupt and resulted in being explosive. It creates a elevated area, of 2 elevated rock filled “buttes” though they are nearly visible now. The cliff is on the island, and helped assist with the pushing manhatten island away from mainland New York. It last erupted 19 million years ago
This photo outlines how the current Oradell reservoir contributed to the Oradell Caldera
