The 2099 eruption of Eyjafjallajokull was a violent VEI 6 rated Plinian eruption, which led to the deaths of 104 people, and caused 218 more injuries, as well as $200 million in damages. In addition to this, the eruption was so explosive that it created a summit caldera within the volcano, making it dangerously unstable as a result of this.
